The Nasarawa State Police Command has arraigned gospel singer Timilehin Ajayi in court on charges of murder.
The 32-year-old arrived at the Nasarawa State High Court in Lafia, the state capital, on Friday.
Ajayi is accused of dismembering his purported girlfriend, Salome Adaidu, during her visit to his residence in the Papalana area of New Karshi, Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
Before her tragic death, the 24-year-old victim was a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), serving at Nicon Insurance in Abuja, Nigeriaโs capital.
The suspect was apprehended on Sunday, January 12, while attempting to dispose of Salomeโs head after allegedly killing her and dismembering her body. He was paraded at the Nasarawa State Police Command headquarters on Tuesday alongside the knife and machetes allegedly used in the crime.
In an exclusive interview with Channels Television, Ajayi admitted to the killing, claiming it was unplanned and driven by jealousy.
โI killed her because we didnโt have each other all the time. Itโs not something I planned. It happened that day,โ he said. โNot that I had it in mind; she was cheating. She hid things from me most times. I found out from her phone, where I saw her chats with other guys. Thatโs why I decided [to act].โ
When asked if he regretted his actions, Ajayi replied:
โI donโt have any regrets because life is reciprocal. Thatโs what I thought. If you must do something to someone, you have to be reciprocal with that person. You have to understand what that person is going through so you can put yourself in their position. Thatโs why I donโt have regrets, because we were compatible.โ
The family of the deceased denied knowing Ajayi or any relationship between him and Salome.
Her elder sister, Esther Adaidu, said:
โWe donโt know this so-called Timi guy. We have never seen him until we were called and informed that he murdered and dismembered our sister.
โI demand and need justice to be served. He is the one who murdered my sister, and he has confirmed it.โ
