A tragic petrol tanker explosion has reportedly claimed multiple lives and left several injured near Dikko Junction in Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State.
According to The Nation on Saturday afternoon, January 18, 2025, the incident occurred when the tanker spilled its contents, prompting locals to gather at the scene to scoop fuel.
Eyewitnesses reported that a pregnant woman and another woman carrying a one-week-old baby were among the victims of the explosion.
Casualty estimates suggest that more than 30 people may have lost their lives, although this figure remains unconfirmed as The Nation could not independently verify the details.
Officials from the Niger State Fire Service are currently working to extinguish the fire caused by the explosion.
