The Joint Consultative Forum (JCF) of Katsina State Government-owned Tertiary Institutions has voiced deep disappointment over the government’s failure to meet their critical demands, particularly the long-awaited implementation of the National Minimum Wage (NNMW).
In a powerful statement signed by the union’s chairman, Comrade Muhammad Nasir, and shared with journalists in Katsina, the JCF reflected on the growing frustrations of its members.
The statement followed an emergency executive council meeting where the union lauded its members’ patience and reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to their cause.
The JCF criticized the government for reneging on the NNMW agreement, which had already been formalized in the state.
Notably, a two-week ultimatum issued to the government—ending on the 9th of December, 2024 had lapsed without any resolution.
After thorough deliberations, the forum decided to await the outcome of consultations with key stakeholders.
It also instructed the 11 unions under its umbrella to relay these updates to their members and stand by for further directives.
Highlighting the dire consequences of this negligence, the union warned of the risk of losing skilled professionals, a blow that could jeopardize the accreditation of academic programs.
The JCF further cautioned that failure to address this issue could lead to the shutdown of departments and institutions, threatening the very fabric of higher education in the state.
Calling for urgent intervention, the JCF urged the Katsina State Government to act decisively to preserve the stability of its tertiary institutions and protect the future of education for the next generation.
