Tension as gunmen patrol Taraba community

Residents of Shavoh, a neighborhood in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, are currently gripped by fear after reports of suspected gunmen patrolling the area on Sunday night.

Eyewitnesses who spoke to reporters claimed that the unidentified individuals, armed with dangerous weapons, were also seen monitoring homes during the early hours of Monday.

The situation has left residents on edge, as the armed figures were reportedly moving stealthily through the streets. Their presence has sparked widespread concern, with many expressing fears for their safety and the security of their neighborhood.

โ€œWe no longer feel safe even in our own homes,โ€ one resident lamented, echoing the sentiments of many in the community.

In response, community leaders and residents have called on the state government and security agencies to take swift action. They urged authorities to deploy personnel to investigate the reports and implement measures to deter potential criminal activity.

Local leaders have also requested increased security patrols in the area to restore peace of mind.

โ€œThe situation demands immediate attention,โ€ said a community elder. โ€œWe need the assurance that our lives and properties are secure.โ€

When contacted, the spokesman for the Taraba State Police Command, Abdullahi Usman, stated that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the area has not yet reported the development. However, he promised to provide updates as soon as the Command receives more information.
