Three suspected armed robbers have been killed by mob action after robbing shop owners at the popular Ngalda weekly market in Fika Local Government Area of Yobe State.
The Yobe State Command of the Nigeria Police Force confirmed the incident in a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim.
โOn January 20, 2025, at approximately 2100hrs, a group of six armed robbers, led by Datti Alhaji Dadji of Ngalda Town, attacked three shops at Ngalda Market. The incident resulted in seven fatalities and eleven injuries.
โThe robbers made off with approximately sixteen million five hundred thousand Naira.
โIn response, the people of Ngalda Town mobilized and killed three of the robbers, while three others escaped with injuries,โ the Command said.
According to the statement, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in the area led a team of officers to Alhaji Dadjiโs house, where they recovered a locally made pistol with three cartridges.
โAlhaji Dadji was arrested and is currently in police custody, facing interrogation as the investigation unfolds,โ it said.
As the victims and corpses were evacuated to the General Hospital Fika for medical treatment and autopsy, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Garba Ahmed, has ordered an immediate investigation into the incident and called for calm.
He tasked operatives of the command to arrest fleeing members of the syndicate and urged the public to assist the command with credible information.
The Command commiserated with the victimsโ families and assured that the criminals will face the full wrath of the law.
