Tinubu approves federal polytechnic in Gwarinpa, names it after himself

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of a Federal Polytechnic in Gwarinpa, Abuja, naming the institution after himself. The institution, to be called the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Polytechnic, aims to enhance technological, vocational, and entrepreneurial training in line with national education policies.

The decision was communicated in a letter dated January 16, 2025, addressed to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa. The letter requested the FCT Minister to propose suitable locations in Gwarinpa for both temporary and permanent sites for the polytechnic. A technical team from the Federal Ministry of Education and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) will inspect the proposed sites before final approval is granted.

Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), praised President Tinubu for the decision, describing it as a โ€œdream come trueโ€ for Gwarinpa and the broader Abuja community. In a statement by his Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs, Kingsley Madaki, Maikalangu expressed gratitude to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for his role in realizing this project.

Maikalangu emphasized the importance of the polytechnic in contributing to the development of residents and acknowledged the historic appointment of Zaphaniah Bitrus Jisalo, an FCT native and former House of Representatives member, as a minister, marking a significant milestone for the region.
