Gunmen kill policeman, attack Katsina LG boss

Some yet-to-be-identified gunmen late Tuesday attacked the residence of the Chairman of Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State, Maharazu Dayi, leaving a police officer dead.

The hoodlums shot the officer who was identified as Police Corporal Shamsudeen Lawal, who was later confirmed dead at the nearby hospital where he was receiving medical treatment.

Confirming the incident to our correspondent in Katsina, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, said the police officer was shot and was rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead.

According to Sadiq, “Yes, the incident happened yesterday but our men were mobilised to the scene as the officer was rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead.

“We arrested three suspects in connection with the attack and further development will be communicated to you as an investigation is ongoing.”

However, it is not clear if there were injured victims, but it was gathered that the attempt to break into the residence was thwarted by the security operatives.

An eyewitness who spoke on the condition of anonymity told PUNCH Metro the chairman and his family were all in the house at the time of the attack.
