Ogun cracks down on indiscriminate parking, traffic violations
The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency has initiated a clampdown on indiscriminate parking and road obstructions across the state, with a focus on key areas like Kuto, Iyana Mortuary, and the Kemta axis.
According to a statement released on Thursday, the operation is being carried out by TRACE’s special task team to enforce traffic laws against illegal parking, obstruction, and driving against traffic flow.
The Abeokuta Area Commander and lead of the task team, Dr Olubori Sonde, explained that the operation follows several rounds of public awareness campaigns aimed at educating vehicle owners and drivers about the rules.
“The enforcement is carried out after a series of enlightenment and awareness programmes to educate vehicle owners at various locations and routes in the state capital, and the enforcement strategies would be intensified at the aforementioned locations,” Sonde said.
He further stated, “We must maintain sanity on our roads and avoid unnecessary crashes and logjams.
“TRACE won’t allow recklessness on the road; erring drivers must abide by Road Traffic Laws to make the roads safer for every road user.
Sonde urged all road users to be law-abiding and adhere to traffic laws while driving.
He warned that vehicle owners whose cars are confiscated would need to pay a fine before their vehicles are released, stating, “This will serve as a deterrent to others.”
