Cancer society appoints new officers

Founder of the Atinuke Cancer Foundation, Ms. Tinu Lawal, has been appointed as the interim chairperson of the Nigerian Cancer Society, Lagos State Chapter.

Lawal is among the 37 chairpersons recently appointed by the President of the NCS, Prof. Abidemi Ominisi, to lead cancer advocacy, patient support, and policy implementation across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The Nigerian Cancer Society, established in 1968, serves as the umbrella body for all cancer organisations in the country.

Alongside the newly appointed chairpersons, the NCS President also named secretaries for each state and the FCT.

As part of his inaugural engagements, Ominisi, accompanied by Lawal, paid courtesy visits to key stakeholders in Lagos’ cancer care sector.

These included Nigeria’s first full professor of Radiation Therapy and Oncology, Abayomi Durosinmi-Etti, and the Director General of the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research, Prof. John Oladapo Obafunwa.

During the visits, the NCS President reaffirmed the society’s commitment to strengthening partnerships, fostering collaboration, and advancing cancer control initiatives in Lagos State and beyond.

Speaking on her appointment, Lawal reiterated her dedication to cancer awareness and advocacy, early detection initiatives, access to quality treatment, and support for patients and survivors.

 She emphasised the need for a united effort in combating cancer and pledged to work closely with key stakeholders to enhance cancer care and policies in Lagos State.
