N23m for Rainoil National Tennis Open winners

The 2025 Rainoil National Tennis Open will offer a total prize purse of N23.49m when the competition serves off at the Ikoyi Club Tennis Section from February 3 to 9, NewsNGR Sports Extra reports.

Speaking at the press conference on Wednesday at Ikoyi Club, Rainoil Group Director, Godrey Ogbeche, revealed that the men’s singles champion would receive N2m, while the women’s singles winner would get N1.5m.

“The doubles winners will go home with N1m in the male category and the female category will go home with N800,000,” Ogbeche said.

“People should look forward to an exciting event, seeing new talents emerge and maybe even improvement in the players that they are already familiar with. People should look forward to a better organisation and should come out and support the sport of tennis.”

Ogbeche added that the company had been involved in tennis development for almost two decades, citing the success story of former champion Sylvester Emmanuel, who earned a three-year sponsorship to Spain.

“One of the previous winners of years back, Sylvester Emmanuel, like we all know, progressed into the national stage and even had a three-year sponsorship with Rainoil where he spent it in Spain, growing and developing his tennis,” he added.

Nigeria Tennis Federation board member, Funmilayo Adako, expressed excitement about the tournament’s return, highlighting its significance amid current economic challenges.

“At the Federation level we are really excited because, considering the economic situation of the country, it’s a good opportunity now for all these players to come around again to have something to do all week and then to go back home with something,” Adako said.

Chairman of the Ikoyi Club Tennis section, Oladiran Famakinwa, emphasised the world-class facilities available for the tournament.

“Our members are focused on the sports of tennis, they invest so much in our facilities, annual refurbishment, maintaining and upgrading and adopting world-class standards,” Famakinwa stated.

“We are delighted that the investment of members of Ikoyi Club are being appreciated by Rainoil and that’s the reason why they continue to want to associate and host the tournament here.”

The tournament’s prize structure includes rewards for runners-up and qualifying round participants across men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles and women’s doubles categories.
