Remo can’t afford to lose – Ogunmodede

Remo Stars coach Daniel Ogunmodede has stressed the importance of keeping up their winning t=streak in the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League as they chase their first title in the club’s history, NewsNGR Sports Extra reports.

The Ikenne-side have won their last five matches and are unbeaten in the last seven, currently holding an eight-point gap at the top of the table as well.

On Saturday, they made it five wins in a row by beating Sunshine Stars 2-1 in what could be termed an ‘home away from home’ game against the Akure side who have recently adopted the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne as their home ground as well.

After the win, Ogunmodede reflected on his team’s performance and its importance to their title challenge.

“We had a great game but unfortunately I have a pity for Sunshine because they played in front of our crowd, on our pitch and we couldn’t afford to lose, we saw the opportunity and we had to take it,” Ogunmodede said after the game.

“We fought like we wanted everything and we got the two goals, they fought back and dominated. They dominated the midfield and had their moments but we denied them a lot of chances.”

The win over Sunshine Stars was Remo’s fourth away win of the season, having grabbed maximum points on the road against Abia warriors, Kano Pillars and Akwa United.

Ahead of next Sunday’s return leg clash against Kano Pillars in Ikenne, the coach remains confident of getting another win to solidify their grip on top of the table.

“Maximum three points,” he said.
