300 Rivers farmers get N150m NOSDRA grant

The Director General of the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency , Chukwuemeka Woke, has disbursed a grant of N150m to over 300 farmers across the 14 wards of Emohua Local Government Area in Rivers State.

Woke said the initiative, under the Renewed Hope Back to Farm Support Initiative, aims to enhance food security and empower small-scale farmers.

The beneficiaries, including 200 women, political party supporters, former aides to the local government chairman, and social media aides, each received N50,000.

Speaking at the distribution event in Isiodo community, Emohua LGA, on Sunday, Woke explained that the financial support would enable farmers to rent land, purchase staple crops, and cover the costs of clearing and weeding their farms.

He emphasised that the programme aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu and the Back to Farm initiative of the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu.

“The goal is to empower these farmers so that by December, they can harvest their produce, especially cassava, and process it into garri, which they can sell and make hundreds of thousands of naira,” Woke said.

He noted that many farmers in the area struggle to afford the costs of preparing their farmland.

“The true essence of empowerment is supporting people for survival and sustainability. This initiative is expected to positively impact the lives of beneficiaries and contribute to the overall food security of the state,” he added.
