Taraba lecturers hail Kefas for staff welfare

Lecturers at the Taraba State University on Thursday hailed Governor Agbu Kefas for his commitment to improving staff welfare and addressing long-standing challenges in the institution.

This is even as they said the implementation of the new minimum wage and other reforms have elevated the university’s status and restored confidence among its workforce.

Prof. Christian Amuche, the Dean of the College of Postgraduate Studies, stated that the implementation of the new minimum wage has made Taraba State University one of the highest-paying institutions in Nigeria.

“This development will complement the Governor’s free education policy and enhance the quality of education in the state,” he said.

Dr. Samuel Shikaa, an Associate Professor of Applied Mathematics, also commended Governor Kefas’ decisive intervention during a recent industrial dispute, describing it as a demonstration of exceptional political will.

“The administration has adopted a holistic and strategic approach to addressing issues such as adequate funding, earned academic allowances, staff pensions, salary backlogs, and the establishment of a functional Governing Council,” Shikaa noted.

He added that the progress achieved so far reflected the governor’s commitment to prioritising education and workforce welfare.

 “I sincerely appreciate His Excellency, Dr. Agbu Kefas and his dedicated team. Sustaining this momentum will solidify the administration’s legacy in education,” Shikaa said.

Similarly, Dr. Amos Jev, an Associate Professor of Political Science, praised the governor’s wisdom in resolving the ASUU strike, comparing his actions favourably to controversial decisions made by other state leaders in similar situations.

“The governor chose the path of wisdom and public interest, ensuring the crisis did not escalate and damage the institution’s future.

“This singular action has distinguished him as a leader who prioritises education,” Jev remarked.

Thus, Dr. Jev urged the governor to continue investing in education for the benefit of future generations.

 “Education is for the liberation of the people. By prioritising education, Governor Kefas is laying a legacy that posterity will remember,” he added.

The lecturers called on the administration to sustain its reforms and fully resolve pending issues, emphasising that such actions will strengthen the university and ensure its continued progress.
