Police arrest 165 illegal immigrants in Kebbi raid
The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested 165 suspected illegal immigrants and handed them over to the Nigeria Immigration Service for further investigation and necessary action.
According to a press statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday by the command spokesman, Chief Superintendent of Police Nafiu Abubakar, the arrest “followed an intelligence-led operation on January 31, 2025, at about 5:00 PM, after security operatives uncovered the presence of over 200 individuals living in a three-bedroom flat in the Kuwait area of Birnin Kebbi. “A team of detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) raided the location and successfully apprehended 165 occupants.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that all those arrested were from Francophone West African countries, including Burkina Faso 35, Benin Republic 11, Niger Republic 5, Mali, 4 and Ivory Coast,110.
“Further findings showed that none of the individuals possessed valid travel documents and were allegedly involved in the Qnet Ponzi scheme, a suspected fraudulent investment platform known for defrauding unsuspecting individuals.”
The statement further said following the conclusion of preliminary investigations, the Command transferred the suspected illegal immigrants to the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kebbi State Command, for further investigations and legal action.
Meanwhile, the police reassured the public of their commitment to maintaining security and enforcing immigration laws, urging residents to report any suspicious activities in their communities.
