Kola Daisi laments education decline as varsity unveils senate building
The founder and Chancellor of KolaDaisi University, Ibadan in Oyo State, who is also Bashorun of Ibadanland, Chief Kola Daisi, on Thursday lamented the worsening education system in Nigeria and called for overhauling of the system by the government.
He made the call during the unveiling of the university’s Senate Building, held at the school premises on the new Ibadan-Oyo Express Road in Ibadan, the state capital
“Our days in school were totally different from the current situation. We had a different environment and education when we were growing up.
“Lecturers can only impact what they have on students now. So, there has been a setback in the educational system, and we have to restore the lost glory of education,” he stated.
Speaking on the building, Daisi said, “I feel happy that this edifice is coming out in my lifetime. I am so excited.”
Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Adeniyi Olatunbosun, reiterated the commitment of the university to fostering a conducive environment for teaching, learning, and research on Thursday.
Olatunbosun explained that the building represents more than just a physical structure; it symbolises the institution’s commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and community service.
The VC said, “As we officially commission this building, we reiterate our dedication to fostering a conducive environment for teaching, learning, and research. We remain steadfast in our pursuit of excellence, driven by our passion for knowledge and our commitment to shaping the minds that will shape the future.
“It serves as a hub for intellectual discourse, a beacon for scholarship, and a testament to our institution’s unwavering pursuit of knowledge. It also depicts the flagship of governance and administration, the symbol of the organogram, and the structure of the university.”
He therefore thanked the founder of the university for his benevolence in giving the institution the befitting edifice and monumental legacy.
Among the dignitaries at the event were the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council of the university, Remi Babalola; the Registrar, Haruna Adetu; the Bursar, Michael Alatise; Prof. Adeniyi Osuntogun, Prof. Olajumoke Morenikeji; and a host of others.
