Anambra man stabs brother to death over food

A 37-year-old man, Kosisochukwu Okafor, has been arrested by the Anambra State Police Command for allegedly killing his elder brother, Emmanuel Okafor.

Sunday PUNCH gathered that the incident occurred at Adegbe Village, Abagana in Njikoka Local Government Area of the state, on Friday.

The 45-year-old Emmanuel reportedly died after his chest was pierced with a stick by Kosisochukwu during a heated argument on the consumption of foodstuffs.

Eyewitnesses in the area told our correspondent that Emmanuel didn’t make it to the hospital after his chest was pierced.

One of the eyewitnesses said, “A heated argument ensued between the two brothers on the consumption of foodstuffs in the house. The argument later resulted to a fight and the junior brother used a stick to pierce Emmanuel’s chest and he fell down.

“The victim was rushed to the hospital and was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.

The spokesman for the Anambra State Police Command, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the development on Saturday.

Ikenga said police operatives attached to the Abagana Police Divisional Headquarters and vigilante operatives in Abagana arrested Kosisochukwu around 7pm on Friday.

He said, “The suspect confessed to having engaged the victim in a fight over a heated argument about usage of foodstuffs in the house.

“Kosisochukwu was said to have used a stick to pierce the deceased chest. The victim was rushed to the hospital and was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.

“This incident is quite disturbing and highlights the importance of addressing domestic violence and conflicts amongst family members. It also underscores the need to manage conflicts and emotions healthily and constructively to avoid irreparable consequences.”

Ikenga disclosed that the case had been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka, adding that the suspect would be charged to court after completion of the investigation.
