Kano community gets borehole after 21 years

An electronics company, popularly known as LG–Life Is Good, has rescued the residents of a Kano suburb town, Saunar Mamu, who suffered from water shortage for over 21 years by building solar power boreholes.

The solar borehole is expected to serve over 300 houses in the community.

The marketing manager for LG Life is Good, Mr Paul Mbah, disclosed this during the inauguration of the ninth solar borehole built by the company for the community on Wednesday.

“We had to walk the extra mile to locate the community which has been suffering from water shortage,” he said.

The area, which is in the Nassarawa Local Government Metropolitan Council Area, was said to have depended solely on water vendors who sold the commodity to them at a very exorbitant price.

Mbah hinted that the company had taken it upon itself to give priority to the supply of water to the communities suffering from acute water shortage.

“We have built this solar-powered borehole to alleviate your suffering, but you should ensure that you maintain it by consistent supervision of the project,” he said.

The General Manager of LG Electronics, Abbas Ambrush, announced plans to execute similar projects in various parts of Kano State, further demonstrating the company’s dedication to its corporate social responsibility.

Ambrush also commended the state for its generous patronage of LG Electronics products, acknowledging the significant role it played in the company’s ability to give back to the community.

In his remark, Alhaji Kabiru Tijjani Hashim, the District Head of Nasarawa LG who represented the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, advised the village head to ensure the maintenance of the projects.

The LG boss, Yusuf Imam, promised that the council would give its maximum support to make the borehole last for a long time.

One of the Imams of the community, Malam Sulaiman Rabiu, lamented that they had suffered from an acute shortage of water for the last 20 years, which compelled them to always rely on water vendors.

“As a community, we suffered for a long time not having water, and we have been complaining about it, but nothing was done until the intervention of the LG- Life is Good.”
