Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Alhaji Ahmadu Haruna Zago, popularly known as Dan Zago, the Managing Director of the Kano State Refuse Management and Sanitation Board (REMASAB).
In a statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Thursday, Dan Zago passed away in the early hours of the day at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital after a prolonged illness. He was 74.
Governor Yusuf described the late Zago as a “dedicated public servant, a master political strategist, and a business mogul” who significantly influenced Kano’s political landscape over the last five decades.
“Alhaji Zago was a unique politician with massive grassroots support who served in various capacities, including as State Chairman of the defunct ANPP. His contributions to Kano politics and public service were immense, and his loss will be deeply felt,” the Governor stated.
The late Zago is survived by four wives, 37 children, and numerous grandchildren. His funeral prayer (Salatul Janaza) is scheduled for 1:00 PM today at the Emir’s Palace in Kano, where family members, government officials, and associates are expected to gather to pay their respects.
In addition to his political achievements, Dan Zago served as a Political Adviser to a former Kano State Governor, a Special Assistant to a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, and a board member of several private companies.
