Oshoba, Olaore, others nominated for Fight Gist Media awards
Elizabeth Oshoba and Adams Olaore lead the list of nominees for the 2024 Fight Gist Media Boxing Awards scheduled for March 2025, NewsNGR Sports Extra reports.
Oshoba, who won the WBC Silver featherweight title in 2024, is nominated for Female Fighter of The Year alongside Blessing Bukola Dada, Celina Agwu, Aishat Oriyomi and Mary Aina Abbey. Joy Nene, who won gold at the African Games, is also nominated in this category.
Olaore, who claimed gold at the 13th African Games in Accra and qualified for the 2024 Olympics, is up for Outstanding Amateur Boxer of The Year against Patricia Mbata, Blessing Orakwe, Ifeanyi Onyekwere and Joy Nene.
In the Male Fighter of The Year category, Taiwo ‘Esepo’ Agbaje leads the nominees that include Raheem ‘Baddo’ Animasahun, Idowu ‘ID Buster’ Rasheed, Tosin ‘Sojar Boy’ Osaigbovo, Austine ‘Magnificent Dancer’ Nnamdi and Rasheed ‘Fhally Boy’ Adeyemo.
Agbaje is also nominated for Comeback of The Year for his seventh-round knockout victory over Rilwan Lawal to claim the vacant IBO All African featherweight title in December. His rivals in this category are Riliwan ‘Baby Face’ Babatunde, Isaac ‘D Star’ Chukwudi and Sulieman ‘Armour Tanka’ Jafaru.
The Fight of The Year category features six bouts including the Agbaje versus Lawal clash, Ridwan ‘Scorpion’ Oyekola’s battle with Osaigbovo and Isaac Chukwudi’s encounters with Williams Amosu and Emmanuel Abimbola.
Rising stars Sulaimon Ahmed, Animasahun, Azeez Lateef, Basit Adebayo, Ahmed Lawal and Joy Nene contest the Prospect of The Year award.
The awards also recognise trainers and promoters with Coach AJ, Coach Always, Coach Paramount, Coach Shehu and Coach Sunny Bruise among those nominated for Trainer of The Year.
GOTV Boxing Night, King of The Ring, Chaos in Lagos, Battle of The Ages and Chaos in The Ring contest the Event of The Year category, with two more categories – Social Media Influencer Award (Male & Female) – up for grabs.
