Sokoto commissioner cracks down on absenteeism in general hospitals

In a bold move to ensure accountability in the State’s healthcare system, the Sokoto state Commissioner of Health, Dr. Faruk Wurno, on Thursday conducted an unscheduled visit to four General Hospitals, only to find several staff absent from their duty posts.

The affected hospitals Bodinga, Shagari, Dogon Daji, and Yabo, are now under scrutiny, as the commissioner directed all absent staff to report to the Ministry of Health for an explanation.

Wurno made it clear that absenteeism will not be tolerated, warning that disciplinary measures will be taken against defaulters.

He emphasised that since the government has fulfilled its obligations to healthcare workers, there is no excuse for negligence.

During the visit, the commissioner also instructed hospital heads to present reports on the challenges facing their facilities, assuring them of necessary intervention.

He further stressed the importance of maintaining proper sanitary conditions in all hospitals to ensure quality healthcare delivery.

The commissioner was accompanied by the Executive Director of the State Hospital Services Management Board, Dr. Bello Attahiru, along with directors from the ministry and the board.

This decisive action underscores the state government’s commitment to ensuring efficiency in the healthcare sector and improving service delivery for the people of Sokoto.
