Over 500 Flood Victims Receive Aid from NEMA, Kano Govt

Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) have launched the distribution of relief materials to 507 households affected by the 2024 flooding in state.

Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf, represented by the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Alhaji Adamu Aliyu-Kibiya, officially handed over the items to beneficiaries in Kibiya and Madobi Local Government Areas.

Speaking at the event, Aliyu-Kibiya praised NEMA for its commitment to supporting Kano State in times of disaster and commended SEMA for ensuring that relief materials reached affected communities.

“We remain committed to working closely with relevant agencies to enhance disaster preparedness and response efforts in Kano. The Kano Government will continue to strengthen collaboration with federal and state agencies to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our people,” he stated.

The Director-General of NEMA, Hajiya Zubaida Umar, represented by the state Coordinator of NEMA Territorial Office, Dr. Nura Abdullahi, said the intervention was part of the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting flood victims.

“The Federal Government shares their concerns and is committed to supporting them during this challenging time,” Umar said.

The relief items distributed included 500 bags of 25kg rice, 500 bags of 25kg maize, 45 cartons of tomato paste, 45 cartons of vegetable oil, 45 cartons of seasoning cubes, and 20 bags of iodized salt.

Meanwhile, the Executive Secretary of SEMA, Alhaji Isyaku Kubarachi, urged beneficiaries not to sell the items but to use them for their intended purpose.

One of the beneficiaries, Nura Sani, expressed gratitude for the assistance, saying, “It will go a long way to alleviate our hardship.”

The relief effort underscores the ongoing collaboration between federal and state agencies to provide timely support to disaster victims in Kano.
