Tijani relishes first Plymouth goal

Ex-Flying Eagles striker Muhamed Tijani is happy to have scored his first goal for Championship side Plymouth Argyle after enduring a tough start to life in England, NewsNGR Sports Extra reports.

Tijani came on as a second-half substitute and scored in the 67th minute of their 1-1 draw at home against Cardiff on Saturday, to salvage a point for the rock-bottom side.

It was his first goal in the English Championship after seven games.

“The feeling of scoring my first goal in front of our fans at Home Park can’t be put into words. Thanks for fighting with us, we keep pushing. Focused on the next game,” Tijani wrote after the game.

The 24-year-old joined Plymouth on loan with an option to buy from Slavia Prague in the Czech Republic.

After setting a 20-goal target for himself, the former 36 Lions player was unlucky with an injury after tearing his hamstring in training in October.

He had only played three games before the injury that forced him to miss 21 games.

Since his return from injury, he has now played five games, none as a starter but his goal on Saturday has helped the club move to the 22nd position on the log, needing three more points to move out of the relegation waters.

Tijani’s career began in Nigeria with 36 Lion FC in Lagos before moving to Czech club Baník Ostrava in 2018. He has had several loan spells at Třinec, Karviná, and Táborsko. Tijani joined Slavia Prague in June 2023, on a contract until 2028.

His debut in the Czech First League came with Baník Ostrava, where he also scored his first league goal. Now, he looks forward to a new chapter in his career under the guidance of one of football’s legends, Wayne Rooney.

Plymouth Argyle narrowly avoided relegation last season, finishing just one point above the drop zone. The club has since appointed former Manchester United star Wayne Rooney as their new manager.
