Niger gov swears in state electoral cmmission members

The Niger State Governor, Umar Bago, has sworn-in the new members of the state Independent Electoral Commission.

The Chief Press Secretary of the Governor, Bologi Ibrahim, made this known in a statement on Monday.

He said the Senior Magistrate, Court 7, Halima Yusuf, administered the oath of office and allegiance on the chairman and members of the commission.

Bago noted that the new members were carefully chosen as elder statesmen because of their reputation and character in work, saying most of them have distinguished themselves in Niger State at all levels.

“The oath of allegiance on the members of the electoral commission will now enable them kickstart the process of the 2025 local government elections,” the governor said, urging them to start work immediately and assured them that the state government will give them all the necessary support to succeed in achieving their mandate.

The new chairman, of the commission Mohammed Imam, thanked the governor for finding them worthy of the appointment.

He acknowledged that the task ahead of them was enormous considering that they were dealing with many political parties.

He also assured the governor that they would not fail on their mandate.

Imam also assured the state that the electoral body would abide by the stipulated guidelines outlined for the electoral commission.

The new Niger State Independent Electoral Commission has Imam as the Chairman, M.A. Liman as the Permanent Commissioner I, Nasiru Ubandiya Permanent Commissioner 2, and Yahaya Idris Abara as Permanent Commissioner 3.

Others are, Capt. Mohammed Baro Permanent Commissioner 4, Kabiru Tanko Zama as Permanent Commissioner 5, Amina Guar Permanent Commissioner 6, and Ahmed Borgu as Permanent Commissioner 7.
