EPL: Liverpool secure 2-0 victory over Newcastle to extend lead

Liverpool maintained their stronghold at the top of the Premier League table with a 2-0 victory over Newcastle United on Wednesday.
Goals from Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister secured all three points for the Reds at Anfield.
The home side took the lead in the 11th minute when Szoboszlai capitalised on an assist from Luis Díaz to make it 1-0.
Despite Newcastle’s efforts, Liverpool remained in control and doubled their lead in the 63rd minute.
Mohamed Salah provided the assist for Mac Allister, who found the back of the net to put the game beyond doubt.
Newcastle’s frustration was evident in the latter stages of the match, with Jacob Murphy receiving a yellow card in the 80th minute. However, Liverpool remained composed and saw out the game to claim a comfortable victory.
With the win, Liverpool extended their lead at the top of the table with 67 points from 28 matches, while Newcastle remain sixth with 44 points from 27 games.
Arsenal, in second place, trail the Reds by 13 points, having played one game fewer.
