Kano Builders’ Conference: NIOB Calls for Tech Adoption in Construction

The Nigerian Institute of Building (NIOB), Kano State Chapter, emphasized the need for sustainable construction and modern technology during its annual Builders’ Conference in Kano.
The event, chaired by Bldr. Abdullahi Alhassan Sansan, a past Chairman of the Institute and Registrar of the Emirate College of Health Sciences and Technology, brought together key stakeholders in the construction industry.
In his address, the Chairman of NIOB Kano, Bldr. Masoud Lado Saleh, highlighted the importance of adopting new technologies to strengthen the sector.
“We are committed to ensuring that our industry continues to evolve with technological advancements. I extend my sincere gratitude to the Honourable Commissioners of the Ministries for Public Procurement, Works, Transportation, and Land & Physical Planning, as well as the Head of Civil Service of Kano State, for gracing this occasion,” Saleh said.
A lecture was delivered by Prof. Nadzirah Hj. Zainordin of the Faculty of Engineering, Technology, and Built Environment at UCSI University, Malaysia. Speaking on the theme “Leveraging the Potential of Technology for a Resilient and Sustainable Construction Industry,” she stressed the need for the Nigerian construction sector to adopt smart building techniques and innovative engineering solutions.
“Technology is revolutionizing the way we build. From artificial intelligence to sustainable materials, the future of construction lies in harnessing these advancements for durability and efficiency,” Prof. Zainordin stated.
Other presentations included “Digital Technology & Construction Efficiency: A Nexus” by Mohammed Sa’ad Umar, Project Team Lead at Bengs Mega Synergy Ltd; “Evaluation of Critical Success Factors and Implementation Barriers of Sustainable Construction in Nigeria: A Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) Approach” by Engr. Dr. Aminu Darda’u Rafindadi of the Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, BUK; “Innovate, Digitise, Sustain: The Builder’s Path to Smart Development” by Asst. Professor Ts. Sr Dr. Nadzirah Hj. Zainordin of UCSI University, Malaysia; and “Innovative Sustainable Materials: Transforming the Future of Infrastructure” by Engr. Dr. Muttaqa Uba Zango of the Department of Civil Engineering, ADUSTECH, Wudil.
Several individuals, including Comrade Nura Iro Maaji (Hon. Commissioner, Ministry for Public Procurement, Projects Monitoring & Evaluation, Kano State), Bldr. Baba Musa Kwankwaso (Majidadin Kano and District Head of Madobi), and Bldr. T.B. Shuaib FNIOB, PPNIOB (Past President of the Nigerian Institute of Building), were honored for their contributions to the institute and the building profession in Kano State.
