Watermelon Worth Millions Spilled in Jigawa Road Accident 

A truck carrying about 10,000 pieces of watermelon worth an estimated N10 million overturned on Wednesday at the Malammadori axis of the Nguru–Hadejia Road in Jigawa State.

The Information Officer of Malammadori Local Government Area, Musa Muhammed, confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday, saying the truck, with registration number FGE 592 XB, was transporting the fruits from Nguru in Yobe State to the southern part of Nigeria.

“A trailer loaded with watermelon overturned along Hadejia–Nguru Road on Wednesday. The vehicle is from Yobe enroute the southern part of the country. The incident happened around 9:00 a.m between Kachakama and Jibori villages,” he stated.

According to him, preliminary reports indicated that the accident was caused by excessive speeding. The truck driver, Ahmed Ibrahim, and his assistant sustained injuries and were taken to the General Hospital, Hadejia, for medical treatment.

Personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) responded to the scene, conducting a rescue operation and clearing the road to ensure smooth vehicular movement.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the FRSC in Jigawa, Yahaya Ibrahim, said the corps had taken necessary measures to prevent further disruptions on the road.
