LASIEC gears up for LG poll, inspects offices

The Chairman of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile (retd.), has embarked on the inspection of electoral offices in some local councils.
Accompanied by other members of the commission, the chairman conducted a facilities assessment tour of the 20 local government areas and 37 local council development areas in the state as part of the preparation for the conduct of the next LG elections in Lagos.
She said the commission, as a matter of urgency, needed to get acquainted with the geo-political terrain of all the councils and understand the challenges likely to be encountered by electoral officials as well as the logistics involved.
“This visit equally allows for firsthand information of the state of the commission’s offices vis-à-vis equipment as well as storage facilities available,” a Thursday statement quoted the chairman as saying.
Justice Okikiolu-Ighile assured Lagosians of the readiness of the commission to provide a level playing ground for all the actors in the political sphere as well as a secure and safe environment for electoral activities.
