Group donates wheelchairs to 70 Nasarawa PWDs

A non-governmental organisation, the Ahmed Abimiku Healthcare Foundation, has empowered no fewer than 79 Persons Living With Disabilities, drawn from across the 13 local government areas of Nasarawa State with wheelchairs.

The empowerment is to help the physically challenged and aid their mobility.

Speaking on Monday at the empowerment ceremony in Lafia, the state capital, the founder, Ahmed Abimiku, said the NGO was established to address the unique needs of different demographics and create positive impacts in Nigeria.

He explained that the foundation aimed to empower individuals, irrespective of age or gender, by providing the necessary tools, resources and support systems for them to contribute meaningfully to the development of their communities and beyond.

Abimiku said, “Today, we are empowering 70 Persons Living With Disabilities in Nasarawa State with tricycles to aid their mobility.

“This is because the Ahmed Abimiku Healthcare Foundation believes that many of the PLWDs can contribute positively to the growth of society but are currently limited by little challenges.

“We understand the importance of mobility, that is why we decided to come up with this initiative.

“As a foundation, we will try our best to reach out to as many as the resources in our hands can help us reach so that we can all have a better society.”

He urged the beneficiaries to regularly maintain the wheelchairs to stand the test of time.

He further appealed to the government at all levels and good-spirited individuals to always show support to the PLWDs and the underprivileged in society.

The Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Danladi Jatau, who was represented at the event by the member representing Lafia North Constituency, Esson Mairiga, while commending the foundation for the initiative, reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to protecting the rights of people living with disabilities in the state.

The chairman of the event, Amb Isaac Kigbu, expressed gratitude to the foundation for its support to humanity and promised periodic collaboration to reach more underprivileged residents of the state.

One of the beneficiaries who spoke on behalf of the others, Akuba Giza, narrated how moving from place to place had been a huge task for them, affecting their means of livelihood.

He expressed gratitude to the foundation for empowering them with wheelchairs and promised to ensure regular maintenance of the mobility aid.
