Police hunt fleeing Ogun husband for stabbing wife to death

The Ogun State Police Command has launched a manhunt for a man simply identified as Oju from Calabar, Cross River who reportedly stabbed his 36-year-old wife, Josephine Isaac to death in Agbure community, Ogun Waterside Local Government area of the state.

The spokesperson for the state police command, CSP Omolola Odutola, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

Odutola stated that one Blessing Isaac, the younger sister to the deceased, reported the tragic incident to the Abigi Police Division on Thursday at about 9:30 am.

Blessing was said to have told the police that at about 1:am on Thursday, Josephine, who was married to the man identified as Oju (full name yet to be confirmed), of Calabar origin, had a violent dispute with her husband.

Odutola said, “The altercation reportedly escalated into physical violence, during which the suspect stabbed his wife multiple times in the neck and chest with a knife.

“Upon realising the severity of her injuries and seeing her bleeding profusely, the suspect fled the scene, abandoning her.

“The victim was rushed to the Ibiade General Hospital, where she, unfortunately, succumbed to her injuries, as confirmed by medical personnel.”

PUNCH Metro was informed that the detectives from the Abigi Division swiftly visited the crime scene and recovered potential exhibits while the victim’s body was deposited at the mortuary for autopsy.

While hinting that investigations are ongoing to ensure the perpetrator is brought to justice, Odutola said the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Abeokuta, for further investigation.

The command, she further said, however strongly condemned all forms of domestic violence urging residents to seek peaceful conflict resolution mechanisms rather than resorting to violence.

The public was also advised to report any suspected case of domestic abuse to the nearest police station or contact emergency lines for immediate intervention.

Odutola said the police are actively pursuing the suspect, and with an assurance that justice will be served on the matter.
