WBC champ Oyeleye challenges light-middleweight division
WBC Intercontinental champion Oluwafemi “The Nightmare” Oyeleye has thrown down the gauntlet to the entire light-middleweight division, challenging all fighters ranked ahead of him to step into the ring.
The undefeated Nigerian-born boxer took to social media on Friday to issue a fiery challenge to top contenders in the 154-pound weight class, expressing frustration at being unable to secure the big fights he desires.
“No more Mr nice guy. All that (stuff) ain’t getting me the big fight I want and the title I’ve dreamed of since I laced up my first pair of boxing gloves at just 6 years old,” Oyeleye wrote.
“So I’m officially calling everyone ranked ahead of me at 154 pounds, top 10 to 15, you’ll need to fight me. You guys ain’t better than me. 99.9% of you don’t have my boxing ability or IQ. So let’s make this (sport) fun. You’ll call me out, I want the best.”
The hard-hitting pugilist is fresh off an impressive knockout victory over Spanish boxer Leonardo Di Stefano in a super-welterweight clash at the 2300 Arena, Pennsylvania, USA, on June 22.
Oyeleye delivered a stunning performance, stopping Di Stefano with a sharp hook in the fourth round to maintain his perfect professional record, which now stands at 16-0-0, with 10 of those wins coming by way of knockout.
What made the victory even more impressive was that Di Stefano entered the bout with a reputation as a knockout specialist himself, having secured 12 of his 13 victories by stoppage.
The Nigerian-American boxer, known for his powerful punches and strategic prowess, has been steadily building his reputation in the super-welterweight division but appears frustrated by the lack of high-profile matchups despite his WBC Intercontinental title.
His latest social media outburst signals a change in approach as he looks to force the hand of higher-ranked opponents who might be avoiding the undefeated champion.
With his latest public challenge, the WBC champion is clearly looking to use a more aggressive approach outside the ring to match his devastating style inside it, as he continues his pursuit of world championship opportunities.
