Adisa, Rasheed, Adesodun listed for Saudi Boxing W’Cup

Unbeaten super-bantamweight boxer Yusuf Adisa, national middleweight champion Rasheed Adeyemo and Adesodun Michael have been selected to feature in the first-ever Boxing World Cup in Saudi Arabia.

The trio will join previously announced featherweight sensation Idris Gbadamosi, bringing Nigeria’s representation at the prestigious tournament to four boxers across different weight categories.

Adisa, who boasts a perfect professional record of 14-0-0 with 10 knockouts, is currently signed to Balmoral Promotions and Game Rush. He will compete in the super-bantamweight division at the tournament.

National middleweight champion Adeyemo enters the competition with an equally impressive unbeaten record of 15-0-0 with eight knockouts. He will test his skills against the world’s best in the middleweight category.

Completing Nigeria’s contingent is Michael, who has been selected to compete in the super-lightweight division of the tournament.

The WBC Riyadh Season Boxing Grand Prix will kick off in April, featuring 128 athletes from 41 participating countries. The competition is structured with 32 participants across four weight divisions – featherweight, super-lightweight, middleweight and heavyweight.

The tournament, designed to discover and showcase the next generation of boxing superstars, will introduce several innovative rules to enhance the viewing experience. These include no draws, with decisive results required in every bout; open scoring after rounds two, four, and six, providing transparency and excitement; and instant replay technology to ensure fair and accurate officiating.

Gbadamosi, who was the first Nigerian to be announced for the tournament, will compete in the featherweight division. The knockout specialist holds a perfect professional record of 7-0-0 with six knockouts and fights out of Always Boxing Club.

Born and raised in Bariga, Lagos State, Gbadamosi has built an impressive career in Dubai since relocating there in 2021. As an amateur in Nigeria, he compiled an exceptional record of 74 fights with 70 wins and just four losses before turning professional.

The selection of these four boxers represents a significant milestone in their promising careers, offering them an international platform to showcase their talents against some of the world’s best-emerging boxing talents.
