Adams must be cleared for Eagles – Pimienta

Sevilla head coach García Pimienta has stated that newly invited striker Akor Adams must receive medical clearance from the club before joining the Super Eagles for the international break.

Despite his injury, the former Flying Eagles forward was named among the 39 players in Eric Chelle’s provisional squad invited for Nigeria’s upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Pimienta confirmed that Adams has resumed rehabilitation with the club’s medical team.

“He has been working with rehabilitation therapists and still needs to undergo tests to determine if he can return next week,” the coach said.

“To join the national team, he must first be cleared for competition, but that decision lies with the medical staff.”

“Understandably, his national team wants him available, but his full recovery comes first,” he added.

The upcoming matches against Rwanda in Kigali and Zimbabwe in Uyo are critical. Currently sitting fifth in Group C, the Super Eagles need consecutive victories to keep their World Cup qualification hopes alive.

The team trails group leaders Rwanda, making these matches pivotal in their qualification journey.
