Rotary Club seeks collaboration to tackle hunger

Rotary Club has said collaboration with different strata of society and partnerships with relevant stakeholders are necessary to promote world peace and for hunger to become a thing of the past.

According to a Sunday statement, professionals shared the view at the World Peace and Understanding Day Symposium 2025 of Rotary International, organised by the Rotary Club of Lagos recently.

According to them, it is important for the world to accept that no one is exempted and all and sundry have roles to play for peace to reign and for hunger to end.

The President, Rotary Club of Lagos, Adetunji Lamidi, said the theme “Peace Through Partnerships: Ending Hunger Together,” resonated with Rotary’s values.

“We recognise that peace and prosperity are intertwined and that addressing hunger and poverty is essential to achieving lasting peace.

“Together, let us harness the power of partnership to end hunger and malnutrition, promote peace and understanding and empower communities to thrive,” he said.

In a goodwill message, the President, Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Gabriel Idahosa, while commenting on the theme of the event, warned that if hunger was not addressed, it could escalate to social unrest, economic instability and conflicts that threaten the fabric of the society.

The District Governor, D9112, Olufemi Adenekan, assured the audience that the district would join hands with other districts nationwide to boost the advocacy, adding that the support of other Nigerians would also be craved.

While acknowledging that Lagos and Ogun States may not have enormous space of land for farming owing to their massive and rapid development, he said the Rotary Club would look beyond the two states in the quest to encourage farming.

In her keynote address, Edobong Akpabio said hunger is a threat to global peace and collaboration and partnership in farming would end hunger.
