Jigawa Governor Uncovers Irregularities in Ramadan Feeding, Orders Immediate Action

Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, uncovered irregularities in the state’s Ramadan feeding programme during an unscheduled visit to several feeding centres in Dutse Local Government Area.

While some centres were commended for their diligence, others were found to be mismanaging resources and failing to maintain proper hygiene. The governor expressed strong disapproval and vowed immediate corrective action.

The Ramadan feeding programme, approved by the State Executive Council, is budgeted at over ₦4.8 billion, with the state government contributing 55% and local governments covering 45%. It is meant to provide food for residents across 287 wards in all 27 local government areas, including rehabilitation centres, motor parks, and markets.

Governor Namadi’s visit to feeding centres in Dundubus, Karnaya, Gaci, and Limawa—on the outskirts of Dutse—exposed serious lapses.

“I am disappointed, but not surprised, by the level of mismanagement and neglect I have seen today. It is unacceptable that some individuals would seek to cheat and deprive our people of the benefits they deserve,” he stated.

He emphasized the need for transparency, fairness, and proper hygiene, directing officials responsible for the lapses to take immediate corrective measures.

“Corrective measures would be implemented to enhance service delivery and address any identified gaps,” he assured.

He also called on local authorities and community leaders to monitor the programme closely and ensure its proper execution.

“The welfare of the people remains a top priority for my administration,” he stressed.

Efforts to reach Auwal Sankara, the State Commissioner for Special Duties, whose ministry oversees the feeding programme, were unsuccessful as repeated calls to his known telephone number went unanswered.
