Kogi police commissioner seeks religious leaders’ support for peace

The Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye, has called on religious leaders to collaborate with law enforcement in sustaining peace and enhancing the security framework of the state.

Dantawaye made the appeal on Tuesday when he received a delegation from the Council of Ulama, Kogi State, at the Command Headquarters in Lokoja, the state capital.

A statement issued by the command’s spokesman, SP William Aya, on Wednesday, stated that the visit was aimed at strengthening community relations, fostering dialogue, and offering prayers for peace and security in the state.

“The security of Kogi State is not just the responsibility of the men in uniform but a collective effort.

“The role of the council as religious leaders in conflict resolution and community engagement is commendable and should be sustained in fostering unity among all people, regardless of religious or ethnic differences,” Dantawaye said.

He assured the delegation that the police command values its collaboration with religious and community leaders, emphasizing that their engagement is vital to maintaining harmony.

Dantawaye also acknowledged the significance of prayers in guiding security operations, stating that he personally relies on prayers in his decision-making process.

He expressed appreciation for the council’s prayers and regarded their presence as a blessing.

He further commended the council’s activities, including lecture series and charitable efforts, describing them as instrumental in shaping a peaceful society.

He encouraged religious leaders to educate the public on the importance of providing accurate and timely information to security agencies, stressing that intelligence gathering is crucial to maintaining law and order.

Acknowledging the challenges in ensuring peace and security, Dantawaye reaffirmed his commitment to justice and fairness, urging the council to continue its mediation and peacekeeping efforts.

Speaking on behalf of the council, its Public Relations Officer, Zakariya Zak, praised Dantawaye’s commitment to improving the security of lives and property in the state.

He reaffirmed the council’s dedication to promoting peaceful coexistence, resolving conflicts, and supporting law enforcement through alternative dispute resolution.

He highlighted the council’s various engagements within and outside the state, all aimed at maintaining peace and order.

“The council’s mission has always been to promote harmony, mediate in conflicts, and support those in need through charitable initiatives.

“We appreciate the synergy between the police and the council, which has helped to resolve critical issues, including religious disputes and community crises,” he stated.

He also prayed that under Dantawaye’s leadership, peaceful coexistence in the state would be further enhanced, leaving behind a legacy of unity and security.
