Police arrest Delta couple for gun-running, recover pistol

A couple, Mr & Mrs Joshua Bogbon Godwell, residents of Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State, have been arrested by operatives of the CP-Special Assignment Team of the state police command for allegedly engaging in gun-running.
PUNCH Metro gathered that upon their arrest at about 1430hrs on March 9, 2025, a fabricated Barretta pistol with a single live ammunition, planned to be delivered to a client in Sapele, was recovered.
It was further gathered that the police team carried out a sting operation at the residence of the couple, acting on credible intelligence.
A statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer for the Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, on Thursday, said the wife named, Mrs. Uche Joshua, “admitted to being the dispatcher and she confessed to having delivered several arms as directed by her husband to various clients within Warri and Sapele.”
According to the statement, “Further investigation also led to the arrest of one Junior Moses Ogedegbe ‘m’ 30 years of Useifurun community in Ughelli South LGA of Delta State who is also a member of their gang.
“Efforts to recover other arms and arrest more suspects are ongoing.”
Also, another team of the CP-SAT operatives have arrested suspected cultists and armed robbers in other parts of the state and recovered two pump action guns, one Beretta pistol, one cut-to-size gun, and 24 rounds of live cartridges from the suspects.
According to the PPRO, acting on credible intelligence, the operatives “trailed and arrested a suspected cultist and gun-runner on the command’s wanted list named, Stephen Oma Odu, “m” 25 years of Obagho community in Warri North LGA, Delta State at Sapele town.
“Acting on the strength of his confession, another suspected cultist known as Abel Festus aka “Tompolo, “m”, 42 years of Oghareki community in Ethiope West LGA, Delta State was arrested at Oghara town.
“Upon search of his apartment, two pump action guns and 24 rounds of live cartridges were recovered.
“Two other suspected cultists were also arrested during the raid including Godspower Moses “m” aka Power of Kokori community in Ethiope West LGA Delta State and Oloriode Owebe “m” 24 years of Oghareki community in Ethiope West LGA Delta State”.
The police stated that preliminary investigations revealed that they were suspected members of the Vikings Confraternity, adding that the investigation was ongoing.
