Danmalikin Shanono: NUJ at 70 – Guardian of Truth, Fairness, Pillar of Nigerian Journalism

The Publisher of Prime Time News, Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, has congratulated the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on its 70th anniversary.  

Shuaibu, a former national officer of the NUJ and Senior Special Assistant (North West) to the union’s former President, Christopher Ikechukwu Isiguzo, acknowledged the NUJ’s role in shaping Nigeria’s media landscape.

“As the NUJ marks this milestone, we recognize its invaluable contributions to democracy, accountability, and the protection of press freedom in Nigeria. The union has remained a pillar of support for journalists nationwide, ensuring the media continues its role as society’s watchdog,” Shuaibu stated.

The Prime Time News publisher, who also holds the traditional title of Danmalikin Shanono, stressed the importance of a free and responsible press in national development.

He called for stronger collaboration among journalists, media organizations, and stakeholders to uphold the principles of truth and fairness, particularly in the evolving digital era.

Founded in 1955, the NUJ has played a role in advancing journalists’ rights and fostering professionalism in Nigeria’s media industry.
