Buba Galadima: El-Rufai’s SDP Is No Different from APC  

Buba Galadima, a chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has dismissed the Social Democratic Party (SDP) as an offshoot of the All Progressives Congress (APC), arguing that it lacks genuine opposition credentials.  

Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Tuesday, Galadima asserted that the SDP is merely a factionalized extension of the ruling party.

His remarks come in the wake of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s defection from the APC to the SDP, where he has been rallying politicians to join forces against President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.

“The SDP is simply a factionalized branch of the APC. How many non-APC members have defected to the SDP?” Galadima questioned, implying that the party remains closely tied to its former platform.

El-Rufai, who had grown increasingly critical of the APC-led government under Tinubu, cited a widening disconnect between his personal values and the party’s direction as his reason for leaving.

However, Galadima maintained that true opposition must be based on principle rather than convenience.

“The APC’s character is to decimate the opposition. We must start opposing based on principles, even if it means standing alone. The NNPP is a party of principle and will not enter into coalitions for their own sake,” he stated.
