APC Applauds Tinubu’s Action on Rivers Crisis, Says Decision Will Restore Peace  

The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Ajibola Basiru, has commended President Bola Tinubu’s decision to declare a state of emergency in Rivers State, describing it as a necessary step to restore peace and stability.  

In a nationwide broadcast on Tuesday, President Tinubu announced the emergency declaration, citing escalating political tensions and alarming security reports in the oil-rich state.

According to the president, recent intelligence indicated a surge in oil pipeline vandalism by militants, with little to no intervention from the state government.

Reacting to the development, Basiru said the move was timely and crucial in preventing further chaos.

“It is a welcome and positive decision by President Tinubu to restore order to Rivers, which was fast becoming a failed state,” he stated.

Basiru criticized both the executive and legislative arms of the Rivers State government for allegedly failing in their constitutional responsibilities to ensure the welfare and security of residents.

He also cautioned the Osun State governor, urging him to respect the court-reinstated Local Government Councils or risk facing a similar intervention.

Meanwhile, President Tinubu has directed security agencies to intensify efforts in safeguarding lives, property, and key infrastructure, including oil pipelines, across Rivers State.

As part of the emergency measures, the president announced the temporary suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all elected lawmakers for an initial period of six months.

To oversee the state’s affairs during this period, Tinubu appointed Vice-Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd) as the Administrator, emphasizing that the decision was in the best interest of Rivers’ citizens.
