Police arrest man for rape, burglary in Lagos

Operatives of the Lago State Police Command have arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly burgling a flat and raping a 47-year-old woman.
The Command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident to journalists on Monday in Lagos.
Hundeyin said the incident occurred around 3:00 a.m. on March 26 in the Ikotun area of the state, adding that the victim reported the matter at the Ikotun Police Division.
He said the victim alleged the suspect broke into her room and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.
He stated, “She alleged the suspect broke into her room and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.
“Her cries reportedly drew the attention of a neighbour who came to her aid. The suspect allegedly attacked the neighbour with a sharp object, injuring his forehead.
“A patrol team was promptly deployed to the scene and arrested the suspect.”
He added that both the victim and the injured neighbour were taken to the hospital for treatment.
The police spokesperson said an investigation into the matter is currently ongoing.
